Project |01 UniBookBid

UniBookBid was a website design to allow university students to buy, bid and sell their textbooks online with other students from the same university available for pick-up, and easy trading.

The concept allowed for trading between similar courses across different universities or colleges, and the advance of PayPal purchasing and seller rating systems.

Created in Dreamweaver I had full control over the site, adding: videos, personalised images, customised HTML, CSS and source code and layout designs.

To the right is a short parody super-cut video to help promote the site during its launch - a random spontaneous idea just to add content to the site.

Project |02 YAMAHA - PlayToTheWorld

For the 2013 Student Yellow Pencil D&AD awards, I created an animation video to meet the brief set; to create a digital media concept to promote the Yamaha product range focussing on the customers as 'players' and reinforcing the bond between player and instrument or rider and bike.

The brief asked for a 938x350 banner advert, however i considered this to be boring and easily ignored online, therefore the 1:32 animation had the capacity to gain attention, not add to the "noise of online" media, and be something useful.

The campaign consisted of asking 'players' to send in their music, record it using Yamaha sponsored software as a USP and send it to YAMAHA to host like YouTube or Myspace but with the incentive of 'weekly-winners' and an overall prize of a record contract recorded at Yamaha HQ.

Project |03 Zero Mints

As a short brief, the task was to produce concepts for transit media for the brand Zero Mints.

The product was a simple design utilising the time spent on the escalators to display the effectiveness of Zero Mints, focussing on the cold freshness displayed by cold imagery subconsciously subjecting the mind to make the body feel colder despite the warm underground station, possibly using air-con as a physical aid.

The second concept focussed on 3D art, symbiotically combining the mint shape with a floating iceberg panel distracting commuters and planting a lasting image where they had to watch their step and look at the Zero Mints.

Project |04 Nandos

The project asked for new methods of communications to the 'occasionals', the market that would visit the chain once a month, yet were the cash cows of sales spending a lot each time generally from family outings.

The task was the entice the 'occasionals' to become habituals or more regular eaters, attracting the audience to visit more often yet spend the same amount, yet the brand still had to stay true to their 'cool' image of not trying too hard in order to no scare away the 'fandos' (teenagers obsessed with the brand).

The campaign centred around changing opinions, focussing on the young parents so to offer family deals to the market of 'fandos' but with responsibilities, generating the tagline "Peri-spective".

Media Planning

Project |05

Project |05 BT Vision

Tasked to create a Media Plan for a failing business venture at the time, I chose BT Vision as a faltering concept in 2012-2013 soon to be consumed by larger competitors such as Virgin and Sky and even Freeview at the time.

I foresaw this back in 2011-2012 when the idea of BT Vision was in the works and could not then find it's niche. Later when promoted I felt the target market was wrong and should pivot to an older generation due to the nature of its content and price bracket.

I seemed looking back at this project in 2014. Not only was I correct that the audience was wrong but also the entire concept was flawed {quickly replaced by YouView} as pricing changed and packages were introduced to appeal to the younger market with better advertising on BT Infinity.

Academic & Professional Research

Project |06

Project |06 Mob Mentality

I chose this topic as it has been something I've always thought about online, and as the online generation has grown has become more of an issue and interest.

This study highlighted the resonant psychology behind the actions performed online and unveiled a few mysteries where "some people just want to see the world burn" and there is no 'mentality' behind their actions.

The study also highlighted a few issues becoming very important now in 2014 regarding net neutrality, online anonymity and privacy. As cyberbulling is now being addressed and the Internet goes through its natural cycle of progression and evolution, much of what was studied is becoming common knowledge; accepted and ignored.

This study was very focussed in order to generate results within a short space of time and to an extent is therefore fairly theoretical based on a sample of primary research. The concept however translates across multiple platforms and is valuable to refer back to when considering the online community.

Project |07 Koi Show Photography

As a hobby I enjoy keeping and showing Koi Carp. Through my many years of experience I have been involved in the Koi Show since 2005 and working since 2007 as a volunteer at the club.

Putting my skills and interests to good use each year for the past few years I have created a collaboration of all the winners' images in one large document for display in advertising and as a gift to the exhibitors.

Each year the output differs using new techniques and varying software to create the final image as also time constraints vary. Most of the final images you are about to see have been completed within an afternoon, some had more care to spend a day and a night during the show and the most recent image due to University commitments was only allowed 2 hours to complete.

Project |09 Mindfulness

For a project to combine an upcoming trend with a brand, I chose to promote mindfulness through Starbucks and created a series of CADs of the storefront layout, promotional ideas and a TV advert.
